Dakar Plateau – Dakar, Senegal

The Dakar Plateau area of Dakar, the capital of Senegal, became Pasadena’s sixth sister city in 2019. Senegal is located halfway between the Equator and the Tropic of Cancer on the Western part of Africa. With the Sahara at it’s back, the African nation of Senegal is Atlantic in essence and western in outlook.

The climate varies greatly from north to south, but rain falls throughout the country December until April. Hot, dry winds blow from the Sahara Desert during the summer.

The capital of Dakar, the western point of Africa, juts into the Atlantic Ocean as a hand extended to North America. At the southern tip of Dakar is the commune of Dakar-Plateau with a population of 36,900 people.
